Department of Social Work and Humanities

The Department of Social Work and Humanities offers a B.A., Masters Degree in Social Work and Ph.D. to students who wish to make a change in their life and society as a whole. This course is crafted to mould a student to become a social scientist. It involves the application of social theory and research methods to study and improve the lives of people, groups and societies. It incorporates and utilizes other social sciences as a means to improve the human condition and positively change the society.

The students are trained to plan and executive an extensive range of social services, social welfare activities, and work in commercial and industrial establishments and training institutions. The curriculum has three important components theory, fieldwork and research. It enables the students to acquire necessary knowledge of Arts, sociology, psychology, philosophy and methods of social research. To facilitate the above complex learning process, the training programme also includes independent study, lectures. seminars, research and concurrent and block fieldwork training. The department considers education as a means for social change and transformation with societal commitment.

Students in the MSW program require the ability to think critically and work collaboratively with others. They should have competence in written and oral expression and the willingness to use computer and advanced communications technology. The department also offers regular Bachelors program in Arts subjects.
